About

Welcome to the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Wild & Scenic Rivers blog!

We will be using this site as a place to post photos, stories, fun facts about science and nature, and to keep you updated on on-going project and upcoming events that are happening along the river and within the watershed.

This blog is a group effort and we want to hear from you! Do you have stories, poems, photos, or other art about or inspired by the rivers that you would like to share? We want to hear (or see!) them! Send them to us and we'll post them to the blog!

You can navigate to specific posts by browsing through our archives, found on the left. We also "tag" each post with keywords that relate to the post's content and location. The tag cloud is on the right and sorted alphabetically.

These three rivers, often called "SuAsCo" for short, flow north through eastern Massachusetts about 25 miles west of Boston. In 1999, a 29-mile segment of the rivers was designated as Wild & Scenic under the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act of 1968.  Rivers can be protected by the Wild & Scenic River Act after a study is conducted to determine if they fit the criteria. To qualify, a river must be free-flowing (which means no dams or other man-made obstructions) and must possess outstanding resource values.  Our five outstanding resource values are:
  • ecology
  • scenery
  • recreation
  • history
  • American literature
